intern
Elsewhere offers an intensive internship program focused on non-profit organization building and production assistance for clever, highly motivated, and talented individuals. Interns aid Elsewhere’s staff in functioning an experimental museum and creative community, and learn to practice operational, responsive, responsible, thoughtful collaborative structures for living art. Upon acceptance to the program, interns will commit 20+ hours per week to assist members of the collaborative in developing and maintaining basic systems for the organization. Elsewhere can provide housing if necessary, and interns are invited to participate in the food co-operative for $35 per week. Interns staying on-site typically have recently completed a BA or BFA. 2010 intern positions will include, and are not limited to, documentation, marketing, administrative assistance, creative assistance (gardening, sculpture, fabrics, painting, projects).
volunteer
Elsewhere loves when people come over to work with us. We often need help in the garden, kitchen, fabric, clothing, and event departments. Get on the volunteer opportunities list by emailing us here. You can also stop by the front desk to see about projects if you just want to help whenever the museum is open. Saturdays are an especially great day for volunteering.
sea (the south elm alliance)
The South Elm Alliance is an neighborhood organization working to preserve and connect the South Elm neighborhood of downtown Greensboro. We are dedicated to fostering community collaborations and opportunities for reflections and exchanges about our changing district. SEA includes meetings, dinners, gardening events, art activities, mapping projects, and more. Read more here.
material donations
While we love stuff, we typically only take donations of objects that can serve a purely functional purpose in our museum. Our wishlist includes tvs, stereos, apple computers, bikes, printers, scanners, an awning. Every now and then, we take an exceptional thrift piece or collection and build something for another venue with it. Email us at museum@elsewhereelsewhere.org if you need a good home for an exquisite collection of stuff and we’ll let you know if we have a need or a project.

Maybe you shop-dropped a big box store and re-arranged their stuff or re-organized the colors at your local goodwill, the furniture in an airport, or, as one of our visitors told us, constructed her own Super Piano Bouncy Ball with her grandchildren in their basement? co-op coordinator
The co-operative coordinator will manage Elsewhere's food co-operative and urban garden. The co-op coordinator will maintain the kitchen co-op system including weekly sign-ups, choreographing the weekly Wednesday clean, and Elsewhere's extensive weekly food shop. They will work progressively towards a more advanced kitchen, sustainable eating environment, and eco-conscious consumption choices, as well as curating eating experiences including experimental dinners, community pot-lucks, and connective kitchen experiments, arrangements and organizations. The co-op coordinator will also maintain Elsewhere's Urban Garden system in the back alley, including a schedule of watering, leading community gardening activities on Saturdays, and working with resident artists to advance the alley as a green living environment. The position offers room and board, as well an absolute myriad of opportunities for creative projects, productions and commissions. You must be able to drive, be comfortable managing and enforcing systems, and have experience cooking for large groups and gardening experience. Your own car a major plus. director's assistant
The director's assistant will assist the two Collaborative Directors in non-profit organizational development, fundraising, administration, design, curation, editing, publishing, and general operations. The director's assistant will learn non-profit management, grantwriting, public art proposals, curatorial design and publishing, organizing for local impact, gain exposure to multiple creative and community models, and participate in an intensive experiment in living art with global artists and creators. The directors' assistant should be driven, sharp, capable, mature, crafty, professional, highly organized, personable, and be comfortable with word, mac applications, and adobe creative suite. Must have completed BA or BFA and have experience in an organizational or professional setting. The directors assistant will receive room and board at the collaborative, position runs March 1st to November 15th with opportunities for advancement. production assistant
The production assistant will work with Elsewhere's program director to assist with artist resident preparation and scheduling, artist projects, event production, and marketing assistance. The production assistant should have basic visual art and design skills, a keen attention to detail, be comfortable interacting with publics, and enjoy involving publics in creative projects and productions. The production assistant will learn the public art proposal process, organizing for local impact, gain exposure to multiple creative and community models, and participate in an intensive experiment in living art with global artists and creators. Elsewhere hosts traveling performers, lecturers, film tours, exceptional creative projects, and sometimes special music performances. Our events are interactive opportunities for creative exchanges between Elsewhere’s collaborative community—composed of visiting artists, our creators, and event attendees.
