shutdown 2009. closing up shop for the season is hardly as simple as turning off the museum lights. after 2 weeks of all day sorting, two secret rooms later, and over 100 fabric bolts re-rolled, we’re finally ready to let the building chill for the winter. the 2010 season begins march 17th. ELSEWHERE IS A LIVING MUSEUM, PROJECT SITE, AND INTERACTIVE ARCHIVE SET WITHIN A THREE STORY FORMER THRIFT STORE
We invite artists, curators, scholars, musicians, puppeteers, cartoonists, theorists, and makers of all kinds and media to create projects with and within the store-turned-living museum. Join us in 2011.
Elsewhere is an immersive world of things, collections, and arrangements that enact visions through the continuous unfolding of material concepts.
Explore the tale of proprietress and collector Sylvia Gray, whose story, determines the things that compose our shared cultural past and the orders arranged by them.
Elsewhere hosts many past projects, artworks, artistic initiatives, happenings, and documented events. Become immersed somewhere in our creative process.
City is a performance game that re-imagines the museum as an urban metropolis. We explore the politics of exchange and pretending through the ongoing collaborative fictioning of our CITYzens, and document the docudramatics on film.
What can art do? Elsewhere investigates the places and spaces and things and processes and practices and people that electrify philosophies of the infra-ordinary, sensational, and collaborative.
